Illumivein Vein Finder Review + Giveaway

May 8, 2016

Happy Nurses week!

As we continue the week, I wanted to talk about a product that can really help us nurses out. Illumivein is a company that creates affordable vein finders. $24.99! Such a steal.

The product features a high-powered, nine-LED vein finder; The same technology as other expensive vein finders. This nifty flashlight can really fit in any pocket. It is also pretty light weight, about as heavy as a water bottle, if not less.

This can be really great for clinicals or new nurses or anybody who has frequent hard sticks.

The flashlight works by gently pressing the light into the skin and moving it around. Veins will show as a shadow or dark light. Note, it works best in the dark.

Illumivein is allowing Mighty Nurse Megan to give away 3 illumiveins to our readers! To enter check out the post on Instagram

Thank you so much Illumivein for donating 3 vein finders to giveaway. Visit them here to buy your own.

I DID IT!

May 6, 2016

What a weird phrase it is to say that I am no longer a student nurse. As of May 6, 2016, I have graduated from my nursing school with honors! I am extremely proud of my accomplishments and professional organizations that I have become a part of.

Nursing school is an intense program that ends up controlling your whole life, but it is so worth it! If you are currently in the middle of a program, have faith that you will get through it. Many before you have!

So while I am off celebrating with my friends and family, I wanted to share with you some quick favorites of my time!

Favorite class: My Mental Nursing course was one of my absolute favorites. Not only were all of the disease processes interesting, but the connections I made during clinical hours will be treasured forever. I fell in love with nursing because you get to walk alongside patients during difficult and joyous times. My mental health clinical allowed me to connect with patients like I never have before.

Favorite professor: My favorite professor was actually from my Sophomore year of nursing. She taught my Adult Health course and was my supervisor while I worked for our simulation & skills lab my senior year. Not only is she an amazing nurse and teacher, but now she is an amazing mom! I wish everyone was able to get to know her uplifting and kind spirit.

Favorite clinical: My favorite clinical was my Adult Health 3 course. I was at a trauma hospital. Our floor unit was trauma with floats to the OR, ER, Trauma Bay, and ICU. I just loved the fast-paced all hands on deck atmosphere.

Favorite pen: So this is a new recent favorite, but I am so in love with the new gel pens from papermate. They have a great color selection and flows beautiful across the paper.

Favorite lunch for clinical:My go-to lunch for clinical days was chicken salad. It is easy to make, quick to eat, and can be mixed up with some new flavors.

Favorite school bag: Hands down the Code Happy Tote wins this category. It is antimicrobial, features 3 pockets, and has enough space to carry my notebooks, lunchpail, stethoscope, pens, and other miscellaneous items.

Favorite APP: I am so in love with NCLEX Mastery. I love being able to study where ever I go and see my progress. Practicing questions over and over helps improve your critical thinking! I've recently been trying out the Clinical Mastery and I wish I had it as a sophomore!!

Favorite Medical Show: I have been really into Chicago Med this year. I have seen them do a lot of illness that I learned about in my mental health course. I think Dr. Charles approaches it beautifully and really helps negotiate stigmas.

Favorite Day of Nursing School: Ugh! This one is between receiving my acceptance letter, getting inducted into STTI, or being pinned!

Hope you enjoyed learning a few more snippets of who I am.

Happy Nurses Week!

Happy Nurses Week!!

May 5, 2016

Chances are you have found your way to this post via social media and our sneak peak of awesome giveaways! Yes, all of that is happening, but currently, I am preparing for my graduation and pinning ceremony. Since I am busy celebrating I thought we might start out the week with a little bit of history. Keep reading to hear more about our giveaway extravaganza.

So what is Nurses Week? National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends May 12th. The objective of the week is to celebrate nursing as a profession. As well as to recognize the contributions that nurses bring to communities.

According to ANA, National Nurses Week was not recognized until 1982. In February of that year, ANA announced May 6 as National Nurses Day placing stress on the United States Congress to do the same. Thus, May 6 was designated as National Recognition Day for Nurses on March 25, 1982 by President Ronald Reagan.

In 1990, ANA expanded National Nurses Day to National Nurses Week.

In 1997, the ANA Board of Directors requested May 8 to be recognized as National Student Nurses Day.

It was not too long ago that Nurses Week did not exist and hardworking nurses were not recognized for their selfless and caring profession. And I think it is very special that it ends on Florence Nightingale's birthday, May 12th. You can never forget about Flo!

Although I am not a Registered Nurse yet, I am a graduate nurse and certified nurse assistant. Nursing is such a work of the heart and I truly wanted to say thank you to those who are already or going to be in the nursing profession.

Here is what you can expect for our first ever Nurses Week Extravaganza!!

Might Nurse Megan will be offering 5 different giveaways. A new giveaway will be posted each day with different ways to enter. Giveaways will begin on Saturday, May 7th so keep your eye out!
All giveaways will be completed by Friday, May 13 and notified winners will have 48-hours to acknowledge before a new winner is chosen. All prizes were either purchased with my own money or donated by the companies. Mighty Nurse Megan would like to thank Nurse Watches, NCLEX Mastery, and Illumivein for donating!

Nurses Week is about celebrating nurses.  Please remember to thank a nurse!

Finishing Strong

May 1, 2016

I'm so glad it is May. It is finally my graduation month. I'm probably like a little kid in a candy store. Or maybe like a mother throwing an extravagant birthday party for their child. I am trying to have the most "perfect" (as perfect as perfect can be) experience because this is my one and only shot at graduating with my undergraduate!!! I'll post a full post all about this later.

But with the excitement of graduation, I have absolutely no desire to complete my classes, especially my general educations. I am not sure how or why they are important, but they are required of you. A lot of my classmates also seem to be in the same position. I constantly hear "I just have to pass these classes with a C and I can still graduate" or "they only take into account your fall semester for your final decision on graduating with honors".

Personally, the struggle for me was in my history classes.

I will admit that I have fallen into this trap as well. It has become harder and harder to study for that last test. Or give that last 5-page paper all my effort. I very well could have submitted myself to this habit a million times in the last four years. The habit of just doing enough to get by, but I thought to myself, what does this show about my character? I did not want my professors, friends, and family to see someone who tried so hard the last four years to just give up in the end. I also did not want to disappoint myself.

I choose to study for an undergraduate degree. That means I willing accepted to spend 4 years taking both classes towards my major and classes that was considered general education. Essentially to make me a well-rounded and educated young woman. Of course, I would love to only study my nursing class, or to be able to only work hard in those classes. But that is not the case. If I was to only study nursing classes and forget about everything else, then how can I get better as a provider to my patients? It is a necessary evil.

If I had created that habit of just doing enough to get by, then what will I also apply that same philosophy to? Will it happen when I am administering medication to my patients? Or when I am documenting? Where is the line?

Do not create the habit of settling. Finish strong!
